I Want to Become a Full-Time Mom

Between my husband and I, I am the breadwinner, but I hate my job. I just found out that I am pregnant and I am really thinking about quitting my job and becoming a full-time mom. My husband is not supportive of this. What should I do?

Congratulations Monica!

The decision to stay or quit your job is up to you and your spouse. Yet, no matter your decision, your lifestyle will be drastically different when your baby comes. If you’re thinking about quitting, I would hope that you and your husband have discussed living on one income. at least for a while

My recommendation is to start practicing living on a single income, take note of what luxuries you are willing to live without, such as eating out, and start saving. When the baby comes, go through maternity leave and try to survive on Employment Insurance and other health benefits for the next couple of months. If at this point you wish to stay at home, consider giving your employer advanced notice.

On the other hand, should you decide to return to work, ensure you have the necessary support in terms of daycare and family/friend to take care of your little one on sick days.
